It was an off year, so it was the smaller site — long before the “Draftline Top 10 Draft Beer Brands“ list was a fixture at the bottom of your Beer Business Daily inbox.

I was presenting to a big crowd, and I was nervous — which was a little funny in itself, since I’d spent twenty years modeling on stages. Standing in front of a room was nothing new. Talking in front of one was. It was still the early days of getting up on stage and actually saying something, not just being looked at. In draft beer, I was used to polite attention, rarely deep interest, until I got on that stage at the Beer Business Daily Beer Summit. But the opportunity for draft beer is right there: it’s the single greatest sampling opportunity in any consumer packaged goods category. Nowhere else does a brand put its product directly in a customer’s hand, poured fresh, in the exact moment they’re deciding what they like. It’s something special — and every time I go out and talk about it, that’s what first makes people care.

Thanks for reading Adventures in Draftlines - Jennifer Hauke!
